What do you think of in relation to the color red? Planning a wedding around a red theme can be as fun as it is challenging. Obviously, you don’t want to make the color such an important part of the wedding theme that every other detail gets lost in the process. You can, however, come up with a theme that makes this passionate, romantic and luxurious color, an important part of the overall wedding theme.
Create a Ceremony and Reception Space Fit for Royalty
Consider going with a theme of royalty so you can create a red and gold color scheme. It’s not just about the red flowers, although you can use those if you want. Instead of scattering flower petals along the aisle where the bride will walk to the ceremony space, line the entire walkway with a red carpet. Nothing will create that totally regal feeling like having people stroll down a red carpet to get to their seats. Your and your wedding party can even take some of your photos on the red carpet.
Use luxurious red velvet ribbon to tie bows on seats in the reception area, along the aisles, pews, or seats of the ceremony space. The red velvet accents will create a truly luxurious feeling while glamming up the entire reception or ceremony space.
Red table linen in the reception space would be totally unexpected, but very regal. Add some gold chargers, some red and gold glassware, and you’ll have a festive-looking reception venue that’s fit for a king and queen, Hollywood celebrity, or foreign dignitary. If red linens feel too intense or too much like you’ve overdosed on red, consider having gold – or ivory colored Damask tablecloths, with an overlay of red lace.
Add Red to the Bridal Party Clothing
If you’re planning a very formal wedding and the groom and groomsmen are wearing tails, you could have them wear a red cummerbund instead of the traditional white one. Likewise, you could substitute red bow ties for the usual white one. The red won’t take away from the formality or elegance, but will add an unexpected surprise that will brighten everything – including peoples’ faces.
One unique and very fun red touch might be red shoes for the bride and bridal party. Red shoes aren’t the most practical, but they could be a neat addition to all the participants’ wardrobes, especially if the shoes can be worn again. Another fun, and incredibly unexpected way to use red would be with the garter. Forget about using a white or a blue garter. A red one would be totally unexpected, but perfectly fitting for your red theme wedding.
