Decorating Tips for the 4th of July

4th of July Flowers DelewareEvery July fourth, the people of the United States celebrate Independence Day to commemorate July 4th, 1776 when the nation adopted the Declaration of Independence, officially proclaiming independence from Great Britain. Revelers across the nation today celebrate Independence Day and show their patriotism for the United States with political speeches, parades, concerts, carnivals, baseball games, firework displays, barbecues, picnics, and ceremonies which celebrate and honor the United States and the country’s history. No matter the type of Independence Day celebration, one theme carries throughout, the nation’s colors of red, white, and blue. The following are three fun ways to incorporate these festive colors along with stars and stripes into your own Fourth of July celebration.

Patriotic Food: A staple at nearly every July Fourth celebration is red, white, and blue food. Serve up patriotic parfaits with crowd pleasing layers of whipped cream, strawberries or raspberries, and blueberries. Frost cupcakes in the colors and top with miniature flag picks or fondant stars and stripes. You can even create a patriotic flag pizza, using a rectangular baking pan, pepperonis to form the stripes, and using black olives or blue potatoes to make the stars.

Festive Activities: Provide safe entertainment for the children with a Fourth of July crafting table where young children can make tissue paper sparklers, patriotic paper chains, pinwheels, and construction paper wind socks. Be sure to provide plenty of glitter so their creations dazzle just as much as the fireworks will after dark.

Decorations: Create a festive atmosphere for your celebration with weighted red, white, and blue balloons. Edge tables with patriotic swag banners or crepe paper and bring the level of your decor up a notch or two by placing beautiful patriot floral arrangements in the center of your tables. Select arrangements featuring red and white roses or carnations and blue floral accents. Tie vases with a coordinating ribbon, straw, or twine.

Whether you plan to barbecue, picnic, or host a sit down dinner this Fourth of July, our professional florists at Boyd’s can help you select the perfect patriotic floral arrangements and wreaths to douse your celebration in red, white, and blue. We wish you and your family a fun, happy, and safe Independence Day!
