Veterans Day is an official holiday in the United States designated to honor, thank and remember all those who have served in the military, both present and past. Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed on November 11th each year and is the perfect time to celebrate, appreciate and thank all of those who have risked their lives to fight and defend our country.

President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th “Armistice Day” in 1919, saying: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

It wasn’t until 1954 that Congress changed the name of “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day”. It has been known as Veterans Day ever since- a day to remember lives lost in the effort of obtaining freedom for all Americans. Veterans Day has always been a special time to thank, celebrate and remember all the men and women who have served in the armed forces in order to defend our country and our freedom.
